In my new macpro came the sony dw-d150a dvd-rw

I wanted a second and got the pioneer dvr-111d in the lower slot. after a certain amount of experimentation with the PIN on the back itopens and closes in the machine, its recognized by the sys profiler and toast 7.1

its firmware is: 1.19

but it won't mount a CD or DVD

is this a problem with the PIN setting in the back? a firmware problem? a "DOA" drive?

cheers

Ive never had problems with pionneers in the past

the sony is very noisy and fror $32 from new egg I thought the Pioneer would do it for me

you lucky PH!

so how do I determine the correct jumper setting:

the first one I tried ( the defualt out of the box) then the machine booted the thing opened without a command

tried another and the machine wouln't boot?|!

now its as above: looks like its there but does not read

so I just ahve to try all the jumper setting?

you are a Lucky Dog

Ill get a second pioneer if I can get this to work

cheers

now what about firmware upgrades?????????

eventhought the innards of the new MP are superb compared with other towers,
the da***m cables to the optical drives are very very tempremental to get them back into the slots

Generally if there's no jumper pin at all it defaults to cable select. At least it does in the Pioneer 110D I have in my PC. Try that.

apparently if you option-eject it will eject the lower bay... which may be important if you have it connected to the "lower" connector on the ribbon connector, but I am not sure...

well the drive option-ejects, etc

Ive had two optical drives in both my G4duals and the question is :

is the drive defective for "spinning" the CD/DVD or do i have to try more jumper selectioons

its interresting to note that the pioneer has more pin selection possibilitiess than the sony

Ill keep trying but im hoping someone knows which pin selection will make it work IF

and only IF the drive is not defective

cheers and thanks

you can always search for jumper selections on google for the dirve you have... that might let you know what you need to set it on, or just remove all the drives but the one in question and see if it works.

The pin settings from left to right are master, slave, cable select, reserved, reserved.

The documentation that came with that drive says the default is position one from the factory which would mean master.
I didn't even bother looking at mine when I put it in last week, but I did put it in the upper bay of my MDD that previously held the stock pioneer 104 that came with it.

I installed a Pioneer DVR-106D below the DVR-111D (strange that some are shipping with Sony drives?). I forgot to change the jumper and neither drives would function. I went back in and put it right in the middle (Cable Select; there was a diagram imprinted on the drive right above), same as how it was on the the 111D. Now both worth great, with Option-Eject and all that.
