So I have an Apple 17" Studio Display, the CRT. The last one they made (before the eMac). It is by far the best quality monitor I have ever laid my eyes on. I'm looking for an 18-20" CRT that is nearly if not as good as my trusty Apple display. I figure if I get a bigger desk, I can get such a bigger CRT for the money than an LCD, and the quality will be so much better.

LaCie displays are amazing...I got a 19" Flat CRT one for $299 shipped from their site (free shipping) it was a refurb, but it looks, and performs like its brand new, and this is coming from someone with a cinema display Really, Really good monitors.
Am I still here?

Sony's better-quality Trinitron displays are also excellent.

I think I read somewhere that Diamondtron is better than Trinitron, is this true?

I second the LaCie recommendation. I picked up a refurbished (clearance) 21" for $399. It's sweet.

Diamondtron is the Mitsubishi clone of Trinitron, which debuted when Sony's patent expired.

For what it's worth, the current LaCie monitors also use Mitsubishi Diamondtron tubes.

When I got a new monitor for my Linux Box, I specifically looked for the Mitsubishi DiamondTron monitor that had the same specs as my 17'' "Smurfy" Blue-and-white Apple display. I found it (and for around $365 when the Apple Displays were going for $500).

Since then, I got a USB KVM switch to cut down on disk space by going to one keyboard and monitor, and kept the DiamondTron because it took up less space on my desk. The Apple Display has been in its box for quite some time now. I keep meaning to sell it on eBay. Anyone want it?

That Apple Display has been dubbed the "Space Ailen" by my wife for its bulbuous appearance.
