I have a Maxtor 20GB 3.5" EIDE HD, (5400 RPM), which works just fine with the exception that iMovie keeps telling me its too slow and stops inputing.
I understand that what iMovie is really saying is that "you need an updated driver", (according to D. Pouge in the iMovie Missing Manual.) The latest Drive Setup from Apple, (9.1 OS) has installed the following driver... AT A Bus 0 Dev 0 v3.2.6. I cannot find a later Apple driver, Maxtor does not appear to have a MAC driver. FWB, (have Hard Disk Took Kit 4.01), does not support the specific Maxtor drive. I would appreciate any suggestions.

Thanks

Apple's drive setup utility is what you want to use and use the latest version to update the driver. You basically said you did this however which lends me to believe your 5400rpm drive might just be to slow for iMovie. Try optimizing your drive with a tool like Norton speed Disk.

Are you using this in a stock B&W G3 or above, or is this an older machine upgraded with a G3 card and a maxtor drive (being driven by PCI card-- ide/ultrat drive controller)? Sometimes there is a bottleneck somewhere along the system bus before the information actually hits the drive mechanism...
just a thought...
