Being in market for some extra hard-drive space in my 8600, I have checked out some prices and found out that I at OWC can buy a 18.2GB Quantum Atlas 10k 10000rpm 5ms with 2048k Cache for $230, and the Formac ProRAID 40 MB controller for $49. Is this good value? Does anyone have good / bad experience with this hardware, perhaps proposals for better kit? How much sustained read/write can I get with this setup in my 8600@G3 500?

And btw, I got a burned cd from a friend of mine using some ISO 9660 format, but my machine doesn´t recognise it, wanting me to either eject or format it. Is there some kind of way I can read it, using some kind of extra CD extension perhaps? I surely got my ISO 9660 format extension at the extension folder..

If your really wanting to go SCSI, Check out Adaptec. They do SCSI the best. I have never had any problems from there cards, and have always used them in my PC's and now I use them in my MAC.

SCSI is nice, but today, it's so expensive. The nice feature about SCSI is to have 6 drives connected to one card. You can have them inside and out.

With that said, on to the other idea you had.

A PCI Ultra-ATA IDE Card would be a better investment. The card you can get for about 100$ and IDE Hard Drives are cheaper, MUCH bigger in storage size and just as fast. When you get that nice new G4, you can then just port the old drive into it or vice versa.
