This is an odd question and Im fairly sure you have to turn off the main computer in this case the MP to connect the second monitor

the reason I ask is that I have two computers the old G4dual and the new MP
I actually ahve three monitors and usually the two larger flat panels are connected to the MP

however Ive had trouble getting the miglia USB HDTV unit as they are in sort supply and have a DIVCO PIC HDTV card in the G4Dual

NFL is excelent in HDTV. it seems to matter quite a bit less that the games are uniformly mediocre when you can see both backfields at the same time

as the MP might be downloading a list of TV shows, it would be nice to safely reconnect the 2d monitor to the MP with out a rebut

I even shudder to ask as sometiomes the connection is not complete when Ive swiched obver in the past and the monitor and MP doesn't seem to have mined

there are probaly electrical and static issues to consider, and maybe after boot the MP just considers that no monitor is attached is it doesn't 'see' the attachment to the vidoe card at boot

that different with a loose conncetion at the monitor or the monitor not being turned on

just wondering here

cheers

Since at least the AlBooks, and possibly even the TiBooks with DVI, the Mac has been able to detect new displays automatically. The fact that Mac OS automatically enables new displays tells me that they see no reason to discourage you from doing it.

I do it all the time, I think it's safe.

every time i hook my tv to my macbook, the macbook is already running.

it will detect the connection and revert to my last settings (changes the screen resolution automatically!!)

its pretty awesome how well these things work w/ everything.
