Found on MacCentral:
http://maccentral.macworld.com/news/0104/02.gefen.shtml

"Gefen Inc. today e-mailed prospective customers to let them know that the company's new DVI to ADC conversion box is ready for shipping. The box enables Macs equipped with DVI, or Digital Visual Interface, to connect to new ADC-equipped Apple monitors. Gefen said that the new interface is ready to ship in limited quantities"

And buried in the story...

"Gefen also indicated that a VGA to ADC conversion box is also available. The box works identically, but enables VGA equipped computers (including Macs without DVI connectors) to attach to ADC-equipped displays. "

Hooray! I can use a new ACD or ASD with my TiBook! Despite the warnings from dissatisfied customers, I still want to get the very reasonably priced and aesthetically striking 17" ASD.

"The box comes equipped with 6 foot DVI cable, a 6 foot USB cable, and a 208 watt 28volt power supply (since the ADC carries power, the power to drive the monitor comes from the DVI to ADC conversion box itself). The DVI to ADC conversion box carries a suggested price of $299 plus shipping. "

Ouch. $299. For a video converter and power brick. What the...? Shouldn't that read $29? Geez.

Edit: Okay, evidently, you cannot connect a VGA port to Apple flat panel displays. Still, I can connect my PowerBook to the 17" Studio Display, which is what I wanted in the first place... but $299!?

These guys are high. 208W?!? Maybe someone needs that for a 17" studio display, but who is gonna spend 299 to wire in a 400 dollar monitor? Nobody, so it's down to the LCD folks. I can't remember all my old physics but 28v at a max of 4.0A isn't that much juice.

Rerouting the USB is just playing pin games, not even hub work and the DVI in the ADC should pass through with minimal effort, in reverse of the Belkin ADC to DVI. Yes there is a little more work to do than the Belkin adaptor, but 299 is a soaking.

I like the concept of ADC and think Apple is ahead of their time, once again. But it's too bad they didn't provide some sort of Legacy support with these new monitors. I sure would like to use one with my Lombard or any one of my older Macs. Not to mention that it's not on the new PowerBooks or iMacs.

Super dumb!
I would have bought a ACD a long time ago (I bought one for a client and it is really the business) but I am a PowerBook user.
There is just nothing else like the ACD and they really shot themselves in the foot…
Even Sony has single cable LCD monitors with various input (DVI VGA) they have a 'media engine' what houses all the power and video stuff and is seperate from the monitor (can be stored out of sight). There is only one cable from the monitor with power and vdoe signal together.
They even have a version with a TV tuner (in Japan) in the 'media engine', why can't Apple do that? It is so much more clever than ADC.
NOBODY is going to adapt that standard outside of Apple.
Can you see Wintel putting something on their boxes that says 'Apple Display Connector'? I think not.
I hope they correct this by July, their sales must be miniscule.
Not even most Apple computers have any chance in hell to connect to these displays at the moment…
Lets have a break-out box with lots of video options to make these displays really cool. Similar to the Gefen thing, but with VGA-DVI and S-Video in and HDTV and a TV-tuner option straight to the monitor and a remote control. Pack it all up like the Formac Studio thing and bob's you uncle.
