Does the fact that an LCD monitor is digital make a whole lot of difference? How does screen redraw compare to one that is analog and what about colour and brightness.

The reason being is that an NEC 15" analog LCD is now going for $479 US (SRP) and probably lower online. Kind of tough to spend that extra $150 or so for an Apple 15" unless digital is significantly better.

Personally, I would go with the Apple 15-inch LCD because it looks cooler with your computer. When you're talking about monitors, image is everything (no pun intended).

The 15-inch Apple LCD is very crisp and bright. I am duly impressed by the short experience I've had with their monitors, and despite their high prices, they are worth every penny in my humble opinion.

Then again, if you are not the type who puts their machine on the desk like a piece of modern art, go ahead and get a non-matching LCD. I figure if you are going to fork over the cash for an LCD (slimmer profile, cooler), you might as well go all-out.

I get funkiness when I have an analog signal going into my SGI flat panel (VGA out of a Pismo). Could it be because the signal's not digital? Maybe. I asked SGI about it, but they thought it was because some Pismo video cards are defective.

So I don't know. Conventional wisdom is that digital is better. I would worry more about which screen looks better to you.

Good luck

Yeah, I know what you mean. Apple designed products are always so cool that it makes it difficult to mix and match.

I just wish the Apple 15-inch was a tad cheaper (like $100 less). Would make the decision much easier. But somehow I think I'll end up with an Apple branded monitor anyways.

Digital makes all the difference with LCDs. you might as well not get an LCD if you go analog. And especially for only a $100 difference, just save money for a little while longer and go with the digital solution you will love.
