I've had my Mac Pro for almost 2 weeks now and absolutely love it. Everything about it is just about perfect, in my opinion, except for the turbine-like sound that my optical drives make. Normally, it's not too much of a problem, but sometimes, I sit at my desk to watch a DVD and the noise is very distracting.

So... Can anyone recommend a quiet DVD drive? It doesn't even have to be able to burn discs since I can put it in the bottome bay and keep the original for burning purposes. Thanks in advance.

I'd guess that while there is some sound which you will always hear, maybe the case design is amplifying it. See if you can get any sound dampening mounts, that might prevent some.

My pioneer 111D is pretty quiet. I am comparing it to the 104 that it replaced and the lite-on 52x cdrw beneath it. the lite-on is noisy but it is damn fast.
