I get up this morning, and mysteriously my Pismo has lost the abililty to print in the background. When I try to print a file, nothing happens; no printer status window or anything. It's only when I restart that the printing starts. I tried reinstalling in the drivers, but nothing changed. I know virtually nothing about printers, so I'm at a loss. Can someone account for this lunacy?

If memory serves me, you should be able to turn background printing on and off from your print software. Just do the "Apple - P" thing and go into setup to find it. My 740 is printing even as I write this, so when it's done, I'll see what I can find.

Tired that; I enabled background printing in both the print monitor and the chooser. No change. It still won't print until I reboot.
This is *weird*!!!

I figured it out. I had turned of the USB Authoring Support extension, along with a few others, when I ran into a conflict between iTunes and Toast in CD burning. So I turned the USB Authoring Support back on, and now she works. Ha. I rule.

Actually, I suck. I spoke too soon. I worked once after I switched the extension back on, now it's not working again. *sigh*. This sucks.

Okay, this is insane. I've been at this hours. I'm going to be up all night if I have reboot everytime I want to print a file! What the hell could be causing this?? Background printing is switched on in both the print monitor and the chooser; but nothing spools until I restart, when I get the message that something has finally spooked and it wants to know if I want to print now. And it never lets me print files after that. What a vicious cycle. Is there a guru out there who can bail me out??
