I am setting up an iMac (400Mhz, Mac OS 9) system for a new Mac user, and she needs the absolute CHEAPEST printer and scanner--quality is not an issue, ease of use and reliability are. I'll probably have her order from Outpost (no tax, free 2nd-day shipping). I'd choose a printer/scanner based on rebates bundled with an iMac, but they don't seem to have deals like that currently and it can't wait. So....
Any opinions on the Epson Stylus Color 580? ($70)
I know for $30 more you can get more, but if there is nothing wrong with this printer that's good enough.
And what about a basic scanner? What brands are recommended? I am considering:
Microtek SlimScan C6 EPP ($70)
Microtek ScanMaker 3600 ($69)
Price is the main object, as long as the brand/model is good.
