which brand's CD-RW is better?
I know many Mac users use QPS,
Iomega new CD-RW -- Predator, is very attractive.

i dont own a qps but i do own a iomega cdrw (not the predator) i bought it from iomega directly as a refurbished unit (i figured that any problems it had would have been identified when it was back for repair) the price was only 149.00$ and it has worked flawlessly. it still comes with the 1 year iomega warranty so i'm not concerned. i looked at the predator, and the only drawback i saw (other than the price) was the fact of how it opened. if i ever wanted to put it under my computer (my imac sits up on a uniriser) i could not because of the way it opens (like a clamshell)

" I think,
therefore....IMAC

If you have FireWire, go with the QPS. Predator is USB, and you'll have to pay extra for FireWire support, once it's available. I have a QPS and its flawless.

I use iMac DV, too. Mine is also on a uniriser !
So, I think Predator is not suitable for me.

Not to totally confuse you all, but I cannot suggest enough (and I'm sure there are alot of people on the board that would agree) a Yamaha CD Burner... They are absolutely the best and I haven't heard of anyone with problems... Search the boards and you'll find nothing but rave reviews on the Yamahas (and lots of problems with the others... especially the QPS)...
My opinion,
Mike

I had an Iomega USB ZipCD drive. It started having problems after a few months, and I had to deal with THE ABSOLUTE WORST tech support I've ever seen. They didn't even know which applications come with the drive. I got really fed up, so I sent it back and got my $$ back.

i highly recommend a firewire burner.
speed is important.
however, you get what you pay for, and if you're broke (like me) go w/ a usb drive.
i have the que usb 4.4.8 drive, and it works fine. (w/ toast 4.1.2, 4.2, 5.0)
however, if i were to buy another (new) cd-rw, i'd definitely scrounge for the money for a firewire one.
and marusin is right.
yamaha burners are the best (just be ready to pay for it).
good luck.

oh yeah.
a friend of mine who has dealt with their tech support on NUMEROUS occasions insists that:
"iomega only had one good idea: the zip drive. everything since then has been worse than crap."
(that particular quote came from a rant about a jazz drive and their "data recovery service", but you get the point. i'll never buy anything from them that isn't a zip drive.)
again, best of luck.
