Anyone try to get a Zip Plus (SCSI and parallel) or Epson serial printer working on a B&W G3 or a G4? In other words do the SCSI/USB or serial/USB adapters work with these devices? Also, will the Epson Syl;us 600 work in OS X if I use the adapter?

I need to know the same thing. I need to buy a new computer sometime soon. I need to know if I can hook up my old Zip Drive and printer(Epson Stylus Color 600) to a new G4. Any help would be appreciated.

Good news/bad news.

SCSI - USB adapters are not very reliable. It is because of power that is supplied by both ports and some SCSI devices requiring power in a way USB can't support it. Zip drives fall into this category. Zips will work when daisy-chained to a SCSI device that is supported by the adapters. All that being said, you will better spend you money on a SCSI card. You don't need anything extravagant for a Zip drive. An Adaptec 2906 card would work. Those go for no more than $60, which is a little less than the USB - SCSI adapters go for.

For your Epson, the solution is easy. Epson makes their own parallel to USB adapter that would work (and yes, even though it's parallel, the adapter is Mac compatible). It goes for around $35.

I can't answer the OS X part, maybe Epson can. Also check Adaptec's site for compatibility info.
