Everyone hates factory settings for monitors... Small, annoying. Yeah. Has anyone come up with a perfect pixel way of configuring your monitor? This means to the edge. Perfect in every way. The screen is maxed out, where the image is just about to fall off...
Anyway, post them here. Say something like...
From Factory Settings on the Apple Studio Display (17"/16" VIS), go to position in the monitor control panel, press 1 up, blah blah blah. This way everyone can find out the best size for his or her monitor! :-D

There is no "perfect setting". Magnetic interference will be different in nearly every install, making comparison of settings meaningless. Even things like the standard romex electrical conduit hidden behind the plaster walls can affect the aim just the littlest bit. Having a subwoofer within a couple feet would change things, not to mention speaker magnets, as do many transformers for those cool little halogen desk lights. While many of these things are "shielded" the shielding reduces short term peturbations of magnetic fields, not eliminate the field entirtely. So while focus and screen jitter are controlled, the overall field around your monitor will be different than almost anyone elses, making the settings just a little different as well.

I'm sure there is no 'perfect setting', and it's not just because of B-fields. I have 3 partitions that I can boot up from: OS X, OS 9.1 (clean install for use in Classic), and my regular OS 9.1. When I'm booted into the regular 9.1, the screen on my monitor is set perfectly. When I boot into the Classic 9.1, the screen is moved 3 inches to the left, so some of it is cut off. I can adjust the screen so it's back to normal, but if I decide to boot into the regular 9.1, then that screen ends up being moved 3 inches to the right. It's like a tug of war between the two OS 9.1's. OS X is fine no matter what I do...go figure.
