Alright, interesting indeed...

I think this is a situation where your original iPod mysteriously stops working and CompUSA is supposed to replace it for you.

Here is the problem:

The 5gb iPod is still being sold, so if they replace your iPod they would probably replace it with another 5gb iPod...unless you're real good at manipulating the CompUSA people. Don't see why it couldn't work out if you paid the $100 difference.

Let us know if it works out!

I'll give you some inside information, as I work at a local compusa (for Apple) Until the iPod that you bought goes what's called D-99, they would simply replace your iPod with the exact same model. If after a year the 10GB model is the same price you paid or less, they MAY replace it with that, it's up to the warranty company. Hint: when you bring your iPod to the tech desk @ CompUSA, BE NICE! I know from experience that when people are nice, pleasant, we are more willing to go-to-bat for them, and we will work harder to please them as they are friendly customers. Good Luck.
Am I still here?

Sorry bud, extended warranties don't work like that. What you can do, however, is take your iPod in (and it does have to be defective in some way) it'll go through the process, and they will give you either a brand new iPod (same model) or a credit for a given amount (not what you paid, probably ~$60-120 less). It's up to you...
