I've got a quick, puzzling question that's a slight variation of the old "PC printer on a Mac" quandary. I own a faithful old HP LaserJet IIP printer (damn thing refuses to break, so I can't replace it!), as well as a PostScript emulation cartridge for the printer. With the cartridge installed in the LaserJet, the thing supposedly thinks it's an old LaserWriter printer ... the setup has worked with those drivers in the past, at any rate.
Anyhow, I'd now like to use the printer with my Macs, which run OS X. Using a Belkin USB-parallel cable, though, the Mac just tells me I've connected an "unsupported printer," and won't let me install a LaserWriter driver. (The Belkin driver software doesn't support OS X, and as a new Mac convert I've decided to stick to learning OS X and not mess with Classic if possible.)
If I could somehow fool the Mac into thinking the Belkin cable was attached to a LaserWriter, it seems like I should be able to print, but I'm too new at this whole Mac thing to know if that's possible. Does anyone have any ideas?? TIA --
