I bought a used iMac for my brother and the guy gave me a free Epson 740 printer.
Came home hooked it up and the imac does not recognize the printer being connected. I have my own iMac setup with a Epson 740 printer that works and plugged the broken one up using the same cables on my working printer and again, the printer does not get recognized.
The test page prints on this printer, but I guess the USB port on the printer motherboard is dead... Does anyone have experience with this happening? I called Epson, and as you can imagine, it costs $129 bucks for the motherboard... and even more for them to drag their lazy buts off their chairs to even look at it.
Since the printer is pretty much a doorstop, do you think it is possible for me to open her up and check for simply things like a bad solder connection for the USB connector?
Someone suggested I hook it up to a PC via the Parallel port... which I haven't tried yet, but it is a good idea... if it works, I'll end up selling it on ebay as a PC / parallel printer, only...
