I just picked up a 2nd hand Palm m105, but can't synchronise it with my Mac 'cos it came with a serial connector on the cradle.

The serial to USB adapter costs £35 and I don't desperately want to be throwing more money at it...I'm a student who has none!

I do however have a USB to serial adapter that came with a joystick I bought about a year ago. Would it be safe to try that or am I likely to ruin either my Mac or the Palm?

Thanks

[Edit: Stupid spelling mistake!]

Third party USB to serial adapters do work with the palm... for instance I use a Keyspan adapter with mine... so it definitely isn't a "you can only use the Palm serial to USB adapter" kind of thing. Who manufactured the serial to USB adapter you have? Their company website might have a list of supported devices...

Not sure who makes it, it was part of the joystick itself, actually attached when I opened the box. It's at home right now, I'll check tomorrow when we break up for Easter.

If it's not going to work though, will it do any harm to either Mac/Palm or will it just simply not work?
