How big would an installation of 10.1 on an iPod be? I'm wondering how much space I need to make available since space is kind of tight right now on my 'pod.

i think an X system can be shrunk to somewhere around 6-700MB. OS 9 can be shrunk to under 100 MB; a fully functional system folder with all the crap you could ever want will still be less than half the size of basic X.
ask in X gen for more info.

Alright sorry for the late response. That's all I needed to know, a rough estimate, I'll see if I can shrink everything down enough.

On a related note....

How the heck would you do this? I understand "connect iPod in Firewire disk mode" but then what? With OS X.... Would you just insert the install CD while in X, open it up, and drag .... What over?

X is such a different world! What is essential? What isn't? Is it possible to just let the install CD do it's thing and install it on the iPod?

Sorry for all the questions, but this thread got my head spinning!!!

So can the iPod be used as the startup disk? For example when wanting to run a disk utility?
