I have an Imation Superdisk 120, I do not use it too much, I've had it for a couple of years. I personally think it sucks, it is slow and sometimes I have to unplug it and re plug it ( both power and USB) to get it to show up on my computer ( ibook and imac). I am thinking of getting rid of it. Does anyone still use theirs? Do you guys think it's horrible too?

My superdisk drive is the biggest crap ever. First off, it takes FOREVER to mount a floppy. Second, when it loads the floppy, it uses all system resources so I have to wait for it to finish. Third, whenever I try to initialize a floppy, it fails. Fourth, I have to unplug and replug the usb cable sometimes to get it to work !

I've seen people using these strictly for floppy access and I read something interresting about that once. I don't have a specific link, but supposedly the superdisk 120 isn't so great if all you need is something to access floppies with. It takes longer to read/write than a standard USB floppy drive would and it's more expensive. the write time has something to do with the fact that it supports the 120 MB media.
There are actually other alternatives to the superdisk drive. I've seen external USB floppy-only drives go for less than $70.00. Of course this doesn't *help* if you actually do use the 120 MB disks. It's just funny because I know so many users who only bought these for floppy access that have never even used the 120 MB media at all.
I guess they didn't know it would be so slow or that there were other *speedier* alternatives out there.

I worked with a School District that had a bunch of these to use as floppies w/ iMacs. They universally sucked and they are phasing them out and replacing them with VST usb floppy drives. I don't in any of the ~20 schools I went into w/ these drives I ever saw an actual LS-120 disk.
I say this format has gone the way of the dodo.

I actually bought the 120 disks. I *tried*using it but it was slow. At the time the Drive was $150 the same as a Zip 100 ( about 4 or 5 years ago) The disks where cheaper so i thought the imation superdisk was the "better" buy.
It was such a chore to work with the disks and the drive I purchased the zip 100 a couple months later, I now have a drive and some disks that I do not use and when I try to use it I remember why I don't use it. Mac Mall has the floppy drive for $50 (on sale this week) Comp USA has it for $59. I'm going to buy the floppy drive, its thinner and less of a chore than the superdisk.

I have used an Imation Superdisk for a couple of years, initially with 9.1 and now OS X, and have never had any problems with it.
The only minor issue was when I first installed it, I also installed the driver that came with it - not realizing that a driver was already available within the operating system. Once I trashed the Imation-supplied driver all was well.

I've got both the Zip 250 and Superdisk 120. I use them both and have no problems. But then, I stay within what I think are their strengths. I have one of Panasonic's great Superdisk digital cameras. I can take up to 1500 pictures on one disk and then just pop it into my Powerbook. It absolutely rules. But when I want to transfer big chunks of data I go with the Zip 250 or my CD burner. The reason the SD 120 failed in the market was because it was slower than the Zip 250 and because it was poorly marketed. So long as your needs are narrowly defined you'll be OK. Just don't expect more for it than it can live up to.
