For those of you who has a superdrive that's A04/104 (in the new iMac or G4s), i'm wondring what's the burning speed you get from it. I just bought a DVR-104 and installed it in my G4/450, using OS 9.2.2 and Toast 5.1.2. When I try to burn DVDs with the drive using Toast, I can only get 1x dvd-r speed. Anyone else had this problem or know any solutions so that it burns at 2x? Right now, 50 minutes per DVD is reasonable, but cutting that time in half can be a very helpful! I'll email Roxio 'bout it, but if anyone here knows anything, TIA. (it burns cd-r at 8x as the spec said, but I can't make it wrie dvd-r at 2x Oh, and the firmware on the drive is 1.10, which is the latest)
G4/450, T-bird 1.05GHz, iBook 500, iBook 233...4 different machines, 4 different OSes...(9, 2k, X.1, YDL2.2 respectively) PiA to maintain...

i don't think the burner can detect media type. Take CDRW for example, Memorex I've used before was rated 16x but always gave coasters at 12x, so i have to do 8x. I've also read that other medias that wasn't rated at as fast speed was able to burn at higher speed...so i'm guessing its more of a toast support issue...oh well...

i just brought up the media question because i used a version 1.0 DVD-R in the A03 (in a G4 450), and toast would only burn at 1X. then i put a version 2.0 DVD-R (apple branded) in, burned the same data as before, and toast burned at 2X.

i had the same results in iDVD: burned a project on v.1.0 media, it burned at 1X. burned a project on v.2.0 media, it burned at 2X.

then again, i'm using X, so maybe this is a 9 thing.

just acquired some dvd-r from another source, and apparently, they are DVD1.9 as well, so it'll only write at 1x. Now that I have a DVD drive, I've finally came to the realization that DVD2.0 discs are cheapest from Apple at $5 each, while DVD1.9 can be bought for $2 each elsewhere. Since I'm not in THAT much of a rush to convert my 700 cds, 1.9 will do 'cuz of the price...and guess I'll stick with it 'til 2.0 prices come down to 'bout $2 a disc or something...thx for the advice.

Neither am I in deep need of speed. Where did you get your 2$ DVD-R ? Do you have a good reliability with them in burning ?

Thanks a lot.
