I seem to recall having that same problem with my sticks when I still had em (gave them to my mom ).

I think it was something that apple still had to fix. Ya, I am pretty sure I remember. So no, there is nothing you can do until Apple releases another update. Correct me if I am wrong btw.

This is in OS X right? That is where I had the problem I thinks. I can't tell you if it is fixed in 10.1.3 though, cus I don't have them hooked up to my computer, and my computer never sleeps anymore.

I had an OrangeMicro USB 2.0....anything connected to it..Printer, Sound Sticks etc. went bye-bye after being put to sleep...Upon restart bingo....Orange told me they were working on a fix...meanwhile I had a useless device...so they sent me a USB 2.0 hub that just piggybacks off a USB port but doesn't offer 2.0 speed but it's ok for the speakers etc....Have to wait for better support from somewhere. I have SoundSticks with my G4-450 running OSX 10.1.3 and the only sound I've lost is the startup chime. My mac doesn't go into deep sleep so I don't know if that's where the problem lies...
You have to wonder...

Yes there is a huge problem with USB audio in OS X that i have been complaining about for over a year. Apple has a similar problem with OS 9 but in OS X it's worse since if you try to unplug your soundsticks after the sound dies you get a kernel panic (or at least I do).

My sound used to always die while uploading (AIM file transfers, email attachments, ftp sharing, web sharing, etc) and playing music at the same time. I used to think that it happened to me both over ethernet and airport but I have now figured out that it only happens to me over airport. So I just recently switched my internet subscription to my ethernet port instead of my airportcard, and now I have no problems. Although I sometimes recall having problems with writing a lot to a firewire hard disk and my sound dying. I don't use that hard disk anymore but i have no problem with iPod syncing and playing music at the same time.

Has anyone tried the new griffin audio usb hub?
They claim it is better for audio on the usb port.
Check the website for their version. Don't know if this
will help your problem. My soundsticks work great on my ti.
Haven't used them with a hub yet tho.

I was able to resolve my SoundSticks/USB issue by putting the soundsticks on the top USB port and the keyboard on the bottom....everything works great now!

Ya, you won't get sound until the OS is loaded...so now startup chime, which would sound kick ass on a set of SoundSticks!

Has anyone submitted anything to Apple about this, or know if they are even thinking of fixing it? I finally became fed up with my soundsticks today when all I was doing was listening to iTunes and renaming some photos on my HD, and they just went dead.

Sys Specs:
iBook 500MHz
Airport Connection
Soundsticks

Since I switched to the main USB port with the soundsticks I haven't had any more problems

I've actually solved my problem. It turns out that it really only has problems while using airport. If you're using soundsticks then your iBook is probably on a desk anyway so why not use ethernet? That's what I did and I don't lose audio anymore. It's a great feeling not to have to worry about that anymore.

I haven't tried that b/c I don't have an Ethernet cable sitting around, but it shouldn't be an issue. Apple should fix the problem. I will give it a whirl though after a quick trip to Best Buy.

Since I switched to the main USB port with the soundsticks I haven't had any more problems
I have tried that as well, and it didnt help.

Dunno if anyone has noticed this, but this happens on my system.

Last two times my soundsticks died on me, I decided to try and switch the ports on my iBook and move the USB Hub to the front port and the sticks to the back....

There was no power coming from the front port anymore! The USB Hub wouldn't even work, but when I moved it back to its original home on my second port, it worked just fine.

Anyone else confirm this happening on their system?

Thanks god! I found some dudes in this forum who could confirm my problems! I almost went mad on this - allways have to worry audio or generally USB going dead while uploading via airport.

Have also experienced the Kernel Panics while unplugging at such a incident. Usually sleep didn't work either - or just the screen went dark and I couldn't get it back to work. HD and fans were still up. Only restart helped.

Been at a Apple store in CA and talked to one of the Genius'. He didn't know about that problem. Even he had no idea what to tell.....

anyway - I have a

Dual533 / 1.5GB Ram / soundsticks / airport: problem happens

and switched to ethernet: no problem at all...

also problem on

Ti500 / 384MB / sticks / airport

cheers dudes. Hope this issue is solved in Jaguar..
