I have a printer (HP 2420) and I want to install it on a 12" powerbook with Tiger. The printer is on our LAN plugged in our switch.

I want to install this printer on IP Printer protocol. In order to do this, i need to find out her IP. How can I do this?

not sure about the 2420, but on other HPs you just print the configure page and it lists the IP address there.

can i ask why you need to connect via IP Printer protocol?

Yeah, print a status page.
I don't suffer from insanity, I enjoy every minute of it.

Because the guy that installed the printer, installed it on the bonjour or appletalk protocol and it gives errors. I mean that now it can happen to work and 2 hours later it doesn't, because it stops the printing jobs, or resumes them, all this kind of crap errors.
I want to install the printer on IP protocol because from what I know it runs better. This thing is my last resort to install this printer in order to run properly.

you get the status page by going through the menu on the printer, look for Printer Configuration or something like that.

did the guy that installed the printer download the latest drivers from HP's website?

Personally I've found HP printers are a dream to setup on a Mac via Bonjour

No, he didn't download any drivers, he used the cd that came with the printer.

That could be your problem, if possible always download the latest drivers of the companies website if you can.
