I wanted to get an n64 (they are cheaper used than the atari 2600!) but don't have a tv. Has anyone had success with using a tv tuner (which kind?) and any game consoles? I have a b+w tower which i just put a g4 500 into, so firewire, usb and pci are all options.
Your experiences and recommendations are appreciated.

or ... i just thought of the XLR8 InterView 2.0. Since most game consoles have rca video out, this could possibly work, yes? I would think the bandwidth of USB might be too limited though. Your help is appreciated. Thanks.

That's pretty much your only option. And from what I've heard with these USB devices, the bandwidth won't be sufficient at all. The only firewire option out there is the $399 Formac Studio which will also do firewire TV as well. Unfortunately, it is $399.

Ouch. Yeah thats more than a n64 and tv combined! wow. Thanks for your reply. I did find that there is an adaptor that allows game consoles to be used with VGA monitors and it's like 30dollars. Having a tv tuner would have been nice though. Thanks.

I got mine off of eBay for about 30dollars. Do a search for "VGA n64" on google. You will find lots of stores that have them but 38dollars seems to be about the best price unless you want to try eBay which has a ton of them.

I use the ATI USB TV tuner to take screenshots from my games, it works just fine, though only in OS 9. I've had no problems playing Dreamcast and PS2 games on my TiBook's LCD, it works great.

If you want to play games, use connectix virtual game station software on your mac and run any playstation game - who needs an extra console !
