Hi,
I $300 bought a ACER 22" LCD monitor, hooked it up to a Mac mini using DVI. It looks absolutly great. What's so great about the Apple monitor which cost at least 4 times as much? (besides the size).)

Have you ever used an Apple Cinema Display? Sit in front of your display for 12 hours, typing. Then wait a day to recover, and do the same with an apple display.
And of course theres also the looks of it. The ACD's are a work of art.

It must be said that Apple's displays are much more like the Apple of old than the rest of their lineup. They are well built and decent quality, but you pay a significant premium for that. It also has to be said that they have had their share of issues, and there are better options out there if you are prepared to pay even more.

Well, the Apple Cinima display does have a sleekier design and some bells and wistles build in. But try to justify that to your boos. I love my Acer monitor.

LCD's vary greatly in a number of ways, especially the specifications, regardless of physical appearances. Many budget models may look very similiar to a cinema display, but their performance sux due to low quality panels, backlights, and interface components.
Not saying apple's are the absolute best, but they are consistently rated VERY highly by just about anyone who has used and/or tested them against other makes & models.
And yes there are comparable LCD's out there that cost less and come close the same quality as Apple's, but not many. Dell's FPW series is widely known to be one of the few in that category...........

apple ≥ dell
i have a dell and find it identical to an acd 20" with more bells and whistles for a lot less. the > part of the equation is only there because the acd's match the mbp a bit nicer...but now that im using a black mouse and keyboard set...my mbp, dell monitor, creative itrigue speakers, and mx duo look absolutely great together. to each their own.

I have the 23" gateway LCD, and my friend has the ACD, we put them side by side and the picture quality is actually better on the gateway, and i have a loads more features that he dosnt, like 5 different imputs, picture in picture, picture swap, potrait and landscape modes, swivel display, etc. and it cost less then half of the ACD version, its black, and so is my keyboard and mouse as well, and my pb will be black soon too, if i cant get the custom carbon fiber case i want made, then i found a place that will anodize my casing for a great price...

I have an Apple 20" next to a BenQ 20" both hooked up to the same computer. The BenQ was a bit less than twice as much. The Apple is noticeably brighter, with noticeably better contrast. It also has a noticeably better viewing angle. I would very much prefer two Apple 20" displays, but I just don't have that kind of green. But I always demand at least one very high quality monitor on my system, and the Apple 20" just flat out kicks ass.
