What are the cons to using an LCD such as the apple studio displays for design work? I know that colors tend to shift depending on the angle of view and such. How about if it is used for non-print purposes? My main reason for considering it is portability (carrying it from one country to another).

Cons: costs more, can't smear your fingers on it to point at things and expect it to keep working as well as a CRT.

Pros: Everything else! No refresh problems (they're fast), no eye strain problems, lightweight, 15" fits in carry-on!

The Cinema Display line is the top of the market at this moment. Yes, the colors shift when looking at a different angle but that is no trouble when sitting on your desk. It only happens when somebody is watching ride next to you and even then its much better then a Powerbook for example. We use the 22 inch Cinema display even for printed matter and have yet to come across some trouble with colors that aren't what they suppose to be. If you have the money it is absolutely the best screen out there.
