Does anyone know if an HP Laserwriter 4 can be connected to an iBook? I have the opportunity to purchase said printer for $65, and want to providing I can actually use it!

If you have done this or know it can be done please let me know and let me know what I will need (I assume some sort of USB to Serial cable, and a few drivers as well), and where I can get them.

OOPS...

I totally went brain dead. The printer I am talking about is not a LaserWriter 4 but an HP LaserJet 4. Sorry if I confused anyone. The same question still applies though. Will it work with an iBook, what will I need, where can I get it.

If your printer is in fact a LaserJet 4M (M being the most important part) you can probably access it through a localtalk to ethernet bridge. My office uses the Micro AsantePrint to bridge ethernet-to-local talk chasm. Make sure that the printer supports localtalk before you buy!

You're making this sound harder than it is. Just make sure that the LJ has an ethernet card (or go and buy one used). Then get a crossover ethernet cable and hook it up. The printer may have a localtalk port, but I suspect that the ethernet card for printer is a lot cheaper than the Asante LT-E adapter.
