I'm replacing the noisy x8 CDROM in my performa 6400. There's several including Panasonic and Toshiba at 24x and 40x but they say nothing about being mac compatible. Anybody know about this?
Apple CD-ROM driver should work with all third-party CD-ROM drives, as long as its a compatible SCSI drive...oh, and the faster CD-ROMs are quite noisey too...they only get worse...
G4/450, T-bird 1.05GHz, iBook 500, iBook 233...4 different machines, 4 different OSes...(9, 2k, X.1, YDL2.2 respectively) PiA to maintain...
If it is a SCSI CD-ROM you have to use a specific version of the Apple CD-ROM extension or hack a newer one to support other than Apple CD-ROM drives. Check out http://www.delta.edu/~dgschmid/patches.html
for an easy patch to make it work.
If it is an IDE CD-ROM, then Apple's CD-ROM driver will support it no matter what.
