I have had a LaCie 16x10x40 CD writer with USB/Firwire connections for about 6 months now and it has given me fantastic results. Unfortunately it has recently stopped working through it’s Firewire connection. At first I thought that this was because of a software clash so tried starting with only the bare essentials but to no avail. Then I thought it might be the Firewire cable but after purchasing a new one found that this was also not the case. It still works through the USB port. Could it be the Firewire ports on the drive? Or worse still, on my iMac (SE 500Mhz)?

Please help me quickly, as if it’s my iMac it is still just under Warranty

I'm left wondering if you had to change any of your OS settings during the time the machine stopped functioning. It seems to me that my Yamaha needed a later version of the FireWire extension than my previous Iomega CD-RW did. I currently have 2.7. I upgraded it and then I had to reload my system software and the Yamaha stopped working because I took a step down to something like 2.2. I changed that and was back in business. Hope that helps.

Although I'm inclined to say that it's your FireWire port that's not working, it is most likely your drivers. Like the last post states, try to update them.

Thanks for the help. I downloaded a Firmware update from Apple and that seems to have done the trick!
