My secondary computer, a beige G3/300 running OS 9, has a full 1.1 GB hard drive partition I'd like to direct-copy over to my iMac 350's blank 2GB partition. I could manually move all the files, but it would be a bit of a hassle (especially considering errors, etc.). I have FWB Hard Disk Toolkit 4, which I believe can do it. I'm planning to do the copy on the beige G3 with my iMac's blank partition mounted via Ethernet. I could also do it the other way (on the iMac with the beige's full 1.1 GB partition mounted via Ethernet).

Does anyone know how to do this?
Thanks to anyone that helps out.
Be happy.

I don't totally understand your problem, but would dragging the whole partition icon over be sufficient?
If not, maybe you could image the partition to another partition with room, and that would give a direct copy, if thats what you're after.
Otherwise, copying all files manually shouldn't be too much trouble... Command-A, and drag...
Hope this answers your question, if not, sorry...

doing a straight file copy would actually be *better* than some sort of partition copy (especially to a different sized partition). When the files are copied over to a freshly formatted partition, you'll more than likely reduce file fragmentation (especially if you copy large files first). You shouldn't get errors copying over ethernet (if so, you've got a network problem anyway).

Problem is, I've tried just dragging them over, and it always stops of error -1,549 or something very early when copying acertain file. I've tried not copying that file, but then it just stops a bit later at another one! And to top it off, they are essential files!

And what is the difference between Command-A and drag, and just drag ?
Never heard that before...

cmd-A just selects all.
If file copying is reporting problems, use some sort of checking utility, like Norton or Tech Tool Pro and see if everything is in-order. Chances are, the file has a damaged resource fork or something, and you can't get it back

something else worth trying...Putting all the files in one file...either using Stuffit to put it in an uncompressed .sit file, or compressed if you want to save a little time on ethernet transffering. That, or .img file or .smi file or whatever you can make it into.
G4/450, T-bird 1.05GHz, iBook 500, iBook 233...4 different machines, 4 different OSes...(9, 2k, X.1, YDL2.2 respectively) PiA to maintain...

In a hurry here...
Had same problem with TR2 CD... does it take ages before it identifies the problem? Corrupt HD if so (I think).
What is the exact error number?

Ok, solved the problem by stuffing the files, transferring the .sit file, and unstuffing on my other computer.

Thanks to everyone that helped

Although I must say that, overall, this post made me feel really stuped (I dunno why).

Be happy.
