I found an ad on MacintoshOS.com for a FireWire hard drive. It was a 61 GB drive for $599. Is this a good price?

BUY
i payed 500 for a 6gb model. Now these are very small in size, what makes it triple expensive, but for the money you spend, I can buy a 20 Gb at best.

I am not sure if that is a great deal. http://www.transintl.com has a 61GB FireWire HD for $399.00 for a 5400rpm HD with 2MB cache (11ms access time).

They also offer a similar 61GB HD that runs at 7200rpm, has 2MB cache and has an 8.5ms access time for $579.00. They have several other models to choose from and have slim drive which use PowerBook size HDs up to 30GB, but you pay more for those small drives. Below is a link for the HDs. The also have great RAM and prices and some other stuff. Transintl has been great to me for years.

They offer great shipping prices including overnight shipping. Their cases look kind of bland, but you could call to find out what you want to know about the drives and cases.

You can do a lot better if you're willing to do 10 minutes of work. From outpost.com you can get the Maxtor 61 GB IDE drive for $290 and a "PYRO 1394 Drive Kit/Firewire Enclosure" for $140. That's exactly what I did. The Sony enclosure is identical, except for color, to the Pyro enclosure. Works perfectly. I'm sure this is functionally no different from what you would be paying $600 for.

I did the same as the above poster. Bought a Pyro Firewire Enclosure for $150 and a 45GB Hard Drive on sale for $180.

Works perfectly. Just edited a 30 minute video using iMovie 1.0.2 on it.
