I have a Powerbook 1400cs with a broken CD Rom drive. I need a replacement CDRom drive and am thinking of getting something that would be compatible with a new Mac (desktop version) that I plan to get in spring next year. I am considering the possibilities of CDRom rewriters.

Does anyone have any suggestions that would take into account SCSI, USB problems, and other compatibility problems?

Thanks for any help.

There's no way to get USB on your 1400, so you would be limited to SCSI CD-RWs. If you get a new Mac, then you'd have to add a SCSI card, which is possible whether it's desktop or a Powerbook.
