I have a Sony Spressa USB Plus CRX100E/X2 External CD-ReWritable connected to my PowerMac 6500/250 with 32mb or physical ram, using 96mb of vram, 3.7 gig hd Mac OS Extended format. I bought a Siig USB Adapter Card that hooked up into the PCI Slot in the machine. Ok, the prob is this: I installed Apple's USB Card Support 1.4.1.smi and then restarted. When the finder came up, i put in a regualr media cd in the Sony Drive, and the CD showed up with now problem. Then i installed Discribe which was included with the Drive software. Then i restarted, and when i open up Discribe, it wont recognize, and at startup, i get an error message saying that an application wont recorgnize the usb product connected. Im running 8.6. I was alble to use it fine with OS 9.0, but not with 9.0.4, but when i had it with 9.0, i had a problem with Toast. I use Toast to burn PSX games, and it's difficult with Discribe. When i get disc info for my blank CD, it says 450mb, on a 650mb cd, what's that all about? And where it says the model name of my CD-RW, it will display a different model. It would say CRX120E instead of CRX100E/X2. I went to support pages, and from one sourse, i was told to have the following extentions:Shuttle USB-ATAPI
Shuttle USB-ATAPI SIM 1.0. But none of the CD's included with my Sony CD-RW have these extentions in their software installers. Can anyone help me out?

Lotsa reasons this may be happening.
1. USB. It sucks.
2. USB on a non-USB Mac... sucks even more...
3. Discribe. It sucks. Use Toast Deluxe 4.1
4. 32 Meg RAM. Not enough for burning.
5. VM. Its no substitute for real RAM.
6. Unsupported burner. Seems like that anyway, if its not being recognised...
7. Sony Spressa. Have heard of lots of problems with those...
8. OS 8.6. Install OS 9. But get more RAM first. OS 9 is more USB friendly.
9. Was that CD new out of the box? Otherwise, it may have a previous session written on it for whatever reason.
Fixes to these problems: Buy more RAM. You will NOT regret it. 32 megs is not enough to run OS 9 (if you decide to get it).
Run OS 9.04.
Other than that, I really can't help you... sorry.

Good News, i got it working perfectly. This is what i did. I had Describe installed, with it's USB extentions. Then i installed OS 9, no luck there. Then i upgraded to OS 9.0.4, still no luck. The i lost hope. While surfing, i downloaded Adaptec Jam, and it didnt install, it just installed toast USB extentions in the extentinos folder, Toast USB Support, Toast Firewire Support, and Toast CD Reader. I already had Toast CD reader, but on startup, it had an X on it. Well, i didnt restart just yet, i then downloaded Toast 4.0 OS 9 patch for OS 9 compatability. Then i restarted, now i couldnt use the Toast 4.0. It just shut down the app everytime i tried to launch it. So then i erased it, and the toast prefs, but i kept the extentinos, then i copied (not installed) Toast Deluxe 4.2 onto my HD. Opened it, and BLAM! It works perfect. The CD's that once said 450megs available in Toast, and 658megs available in Describe, now says 658megs in Toast. I ran it in simulations mode, Perfect! Then really burned the CD, Perfect! My solution: Use Toast 4.2 with Toast USB Support extention! That's it! Thanks for the help though!
