Whenever I want to print, I can't. I go to the chooser, but that says that I have no printer port, when it should be the USB port that comes up. It may be due to the fact that I am out of colour ink, but I don't know for sure.

I bet that's your problem. My 740 acts up whenever the low ink light comes on as well. By the way, there's a good chance that you're not really out of ink. In my experience, the low ink light comes on too soon. Just take the ink cartridge out for a few seconds and then put it back in - I believe the way to do this is to lift up the cover, and then hold down the paper feed buuton for a few seconds until the ink cartridges move out to the centre. That should probably fix your problem, though you will need more ink soon.

I often run into this problem as well, but it's not the ink cartridges for me. My 740 is plugged into a USB hub, and for reasons that I haven't figured out yet the USB port occasionally shuts down. All that's needed is to unplug and plug in the printer cable and you should be fine.

See if the printer appears in Apple System Profiler in Devices and Volumes next to the USB bus. If not, check its connections and make sure you have the latest USB software for your OS. If it does, make sure you have the latest Epson drivers (including the "Stylus Driver Updater") from: http://support.epson.com/hardware/pr...lelibrary.html If you have the latest drivers already, try reinstalling them.

If you still have problems, try using Apple's print class driver instead of Epson's. It is an extension called USBPrintDriver in Mac OS 8.6 and is built into the system in Mac OS 9. Remove EPSON USBPrintClass1, 2, and 3 from the Extensions folder, and if using Mac OS 8.6 or earlier, be sure you have USBPrintDriver.

Hope that helps.

Also, make sure you turn the printer on before plugging it into the USB port.
