Whenever I print in colour, 720 dpi or higher, with my Epson Stylus Colour 740, I get black lines all through it, whats up?
Do I just need to clean it? I'll do that later, but I'm concerned its more than that...
I know of several people with Epsons that have had the same problems...
Any ideas?

Are the lines vertical-like bands? If they are, try cleaning the utility: Page Set-up>Utility>Head Cleaning (You might also wish to try the head alignment and nozzle check).

I use an Epson 3000, Photo EX, and Photo 700 regularly, and this always clears it up.
I am stupidest when I try to be funny.

I myself used to have an Epson 850 inkjet printer. I had it for half a year before it started printing vertical lines on the paper. I found out that the ink carriage had been leaking black ink onto the rollers. I would clean off the rollers frequently, but the problem continued. Because the model was still under warranty, yet out of stock at Epson, they were forced to actually send me a newer, much nicer model. If this post has been of assistance to you, let me know. Thanks.

I found if you use cheap paper the fibers of the paper, when wet with ink can stick inside the printer, so when you print, they would sort of brush the ink and create lines. Try using the utilities that came with the printer to clean the heads, and maybe do it several times. If it still does it, take a look inside to see if there is anything brushing the surface of the paper. And of course if it still does it take it back.

I agree with everybody--use the cleaning utility from the print window, and if that doesn't work, open the cover and take a bunch of qtips and gently brush the rollers. Alcohol on the qtips may help.

I've had to do this repeatedly lately--not sure if this is due to older printer (2 yrs) or the non-epson cartridges I bought.

Good luck.

just watch that you leave no cotton thread/fuzz residue behind after using the Q-Tipsª

that would be no fun at all

Thanks for the replies. Cleaning the heads with the button on the front didn't help (I think the heads may be somewhat blocked though... will look into that). I haven't got any utilities for head cleaning, so I'll look around for those.
I'll try cleaning the rollers tonight... if I have no luck after that, 1-800-EPSON.
Thanks again!

UPDATE: Just realised you can clean the heads from print window, after re-reading these posts. I though you used a util that came on the CD's.

The owner's manual also mentions some things to do when you get vertical or horizontal lines in your print outs! It may offer other suggestions for you to try!
