the wife is looking for a webcam. wants one with a decent resolution (1024x768 or so). USB or firewire connection. price isnt really a concern. a good user interface would be a plus. thanks.

Ido. It is an Orange Micro iBot. I really like it, and it's extremely fast and reliable, but unfortunately so far I've been only able to use it in OS 9.

If you're running OS X, then you must get a FireWire cam since there are no drivers that I know of for USB. You'll get better resolution with FireWire anyway, though they do tend to cost more.

Go check out Evological for a list of FireWire cams and to download their excellent CoolCam app.

Do any actual *webcams* come with 1024x768 resolution? I'm not sure, but I have a feeling you are out of luck. 640x480 seems to be the standard. 1024x768 stills maybe, but that's pretty insane size for video, getting into Digital camera resolutions.

By the way, there is now a limited, free, open source driver for some USB phillips cameras...
