I finally got my brand new Cyborg 3D 2000 joystick and the thing doesn't work. At first I thought that it was a bad joystick and I called up the Tech line and told them what was going on... According to them, Apple has changed one of the drivers that the stick uses and it doesn't work well with OS 9. The techie that I spoke with said that Saiteck doesn't develope their own driver software; they depend on the OS drivers. Saiteck said that they have contacted Apple about the problem and Apple said that they would look into it and see if they can fix it. I called up Apple and the lady that I talked to didn't have a clue as to what the heck I was blathering about.
Now this is my problem...
Saitek said that the stick will work perfectly with OS 8.5 or 8.6 and when OS X comes out this fall, the joystick should work fine. If it doesn't, I can get a full refund IF I haven't used the stick. I don't really want to return the stick cause it is one of the best ones out there for flight sims, but, I don't want to downgrade from OS 9. Does anyone out there know what I can do to keep the stick? I want to keep both OS 9 and the joystick but I can't figure out what to do. Does anyone have any suggestions?

You didn't specify if you were using the USB version of the Saitek joystick, but since you require a driver for it, I'm assuming you have the non-USB version.
If you have an available PCI slot, you can add an adapter card ($30 to $40) that will give you 2 powered USB ports. To my knowledge, Saitek's USB joysticks work using Apple Sprockets extensions, only requiring initialization of the joystick when starting a game by rotating it 360 degrees a few times. Perhaps you could swap your joystick for the USB version.
I have a 2 year old G3 desktop (before USB) and I am adding a USB adapter card to one of my PCI slots, so that I can use the Cyborg USB joystick with Falcon 4.0.
Hope this helps.

I can confirm your driver problem as I have the same thing happening. The moment I upgraded to OS 9, the Cyborg stopped working properly at all. I also tried USB Overdrive and that did not help, although your mileage may vary.

My stick is the USB version and I guess that it runs off of Apple game sprokets and not a driver. I have gotten my computer to reconize the stick but not any of the butttonns. This is very frustrating and I am about ready to return the damn thing.

I have a Cyberg 3D USB and it works fine in OS 9. You might try removing 3rd party input sproket files like USB Overload.

I have a Cybrg 3D USB and have no problems with using it with a G4, OS9 and InputSprockets 1.4.1. Worked right out
of the box. Also, I have used USBOverdrive as well with out any problems.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe that the Cybrg is dependent on Apple's InputSprockets, games that support
InputSprockets and games that can recognize the Cybrg - for FULL button support. Or the use of USBOverdrive.
I have used it with Falcon 4 and Fly with Apple's InputSprockets. I have also used it with Quake3, USBOverdrive is
required to map buttons to keys. Note joy sticks are useless for Quake.

I have a Cyborg stick; I never use it because it constantly drifts to the left. Saitek support was not very helpful. I have 8.6, iMac B, new game sprockets, and have tried usb overdrive.
Anyone else with this problem, know of any fixes or workarounds?
Thanks.

I purchased a Cyborg USB stick and returned it because of a nasty drift to the left and that couldn't be fixed by calibration. I returned it for a CH Products 3d stick which, though it has less buttons, is a heck of a lot more reliable. Os 9 Didn't exist at the time, so I can't comment on that.

I had the same problem after I updated to
OS 9.0 I have a B/W 400 G3. I was using the joystick for Falcon 4. All I had to do was go into Falcon's game controller setup and re-calibrate the joystick. Everything works fine now.

I have a Saitek Cyborg 3D USB (Not sure if it's the 2000 version) I also had problems with moving to one side and with the movements when you twist the joystick. I finally solved the problem when I discovered that Game Sprockets includes auto calibration. Just move the stick in all directions as far as possible. I assume that it then calcultaes a mid-point based on this data, and this is the zero movement position.
As to the drivers, make sure that it's the most recent version of USB Overdrive that you have, as older versions are incompatioble with the version of InputSprockets in Mac OS 9.

the cyborg 3d and the cyborg 2000 are different. the 3d has more buttons and has a rotatible handle. this works w/ game sprockets, as far as i know. i'm not sure about the 2000
i'd get the 3d if you can; it's a better stick, if a little pricier.

Well, I got the stick to work but now the trigger and 3 tumb buttons don't work. ARGHHH!!! I can't figure out what I am doing wrong. On one of my flight sims the plane is stuck diving to the left; on the other, the trigger and buttons won't work. Can one of you guys that have it working correctly email me the Input Sprockets that you are using and I will see if that will fix the problem.

Well, hate to bash the company but...
Saitek STINKs.. Do a few searchs on them and see what kind of problems people on the PC side have been having.
They released a stick/throttle combo last year or so.. And it used at AT keyboard connector instead of PS/2. They claimed that at the time they designed the stick, the AT connector was the standard. Huh? And to top it off, if you use an AT to PS/2 adapter, you start getting bugs where keys on the keyboard act as if they're stuck down. My friend is almost ready the throw the darned thing out the window, as are many people who's posts I've read. Now you would think the recently introduced USB version would fix that? nope. And to top it off, among the hardcore Falcon 4 players, the stick (X36/X35T combo) has a life expectancy of about 5 months before the springs and such give out. Total crud. Useless and apathetic tech support. And this is for the PC side. So I'm not at ALL surprised that there are problems with their mac sticks. On the other hand, they do look cool and I love the adjustability of the Cyborg as well as the spring centering mechanism (consistant tension along all axes, usually sticks have weaker tension along the x/y, and stronger tension on the diagonals). But they company's record keeps me from buying one.
