This problem is really exhausting me, to say the least>>>> I recently bought a Xitel DG-1 port, which through USB, provides an audio optical digital output to a MiniDisc. I am attempting to operate it on a Series 1 G3 (beige) with OS 9.0.4. I have a MacAlly USB/PCI card with all the latest drivers. (USB card support v 1.4.1 and Apple Audio Extension 1.0.5). At first OS 9 couldnt even get past the USB configuration descriptor.... After MUCH tampering, I have gotten it to recognize the device. However, thats all it does. Once it identifies the device, it does nothing to initialize it as an audio device. (Ultimately its suppose to pop up the DG-1 as an alternate sound output device in the Sound control panel, and I should see the laser on the optical cable light up...) SOO....I just tried the device on a friend's Blue and White G3 (built-in USB) with exactly the same OS and drivers, and it worked!!!
Is there anything I can do to get it functional on MY machine????
Xitel cant help, because they say it is a MacOS issue (which i agree with), and Apple Support left me out to dry big time...
If anyone can read through the following USB events (not for the weak of heart) and tell me if I have a chance of making this work, I'd really appreciate it. The fuuny thing is the the one that works, seem to have more errors....

Just a shot it the dark, but I have a MacAlly hub that just doesn't work right. If you have the chance to try another USB card, I would recommend that.

Thanks for your advice, The card doesn't seem to be the problem, I have tried an Apple USB mouse, and it seemed fine. I am awaiting a reply from MacAlly as well. From what I can decipher, it detects the device, it just won't initiate as an audio device. What the Apple guy I talked to eluded to (no straight answers cuz I wouldn't pay the $40 troubleshooting charge) was that an older machine without on board USB isn't capable of these newer, more advanced USB functions, primarily anything to do with audio for some reason.... So basically I'm up a creek at this point.

sorry for sounding negative, but...
from what I've heard, the MacOS USB audio drivers only work for machines where the USB is *built in*, not ones where it's been added as a PCI card. This may just be Apple's usual 'we don't want to bother testing it for other setups than the ones we sell' though.
