hey guys....

for a long time on those trusty 'ole rumor web sites, i've been reading about 800 mbs firewire that is supposedly coming out--i believe it actually isn't just rumor, though the time fram may be.

but, nowhere does it state how this extra speed is achieved. in layman's terms of course....

anyway, i have absolutely no need for such speed, but i'm just wondering, would such an advancement be via software changes, or hardware changes? will the computers with firewire today be able to take advantage of the speed doubling, just by updating software?

just a lil curious.....

thanks!

I believe it is a new/future Hardware standard that will be used in new computers.

It's just another technology that can be added to macs to make our own feel more out dated.

no big deal to me. I'm happy with 400Mbs.

I'm not exactly sure what it will be used for.... Maybe HDTV editing? I don't know...

My favorite Firewire rumor is that 800 Mb/s will be skipped and they'll go right to 1600 Mb/s (which is also in the works.) Guess we'll see.

Any of these changes will require hardware and software changes.
