I recently purchased the Logitech Wingman Extreme Digital 3D joystick because it looked cool, had plenty of buttons, and they claimed it was Mac supported. Much to my surprise, Logitech did not include drivers. Instead, it is supposed to work by using InputSprocket. Initially, this was bad because I had actually purchased it to work with some older games (like TIE Fighter and X-wing). These older games don't support InputSprocket. After hunting for advice, I was told to use USB Overdrive.

I have utilized USB Overdrive to make the joystick "responsive" in TIE Fighter. I have utilized InputSprocket to make it "responsive" in the Descent 3 demo. My explanation of "responsive" will now show you readers the real problem I seem to be having. When I say responsive, I mean that moving the joystick and pushing the buttons does have an effect in the game. The effects are not desireable though. For the most part, the ship I was flying at the time (in both TIE and D3) just kept moving. Even when I let go of the stick, the ship kept spinning or banking. At first, I thought it was a sensitivity problem. In D3, you can adjust this. I dropped the ratings down to half of normal. The result was that it just took a second or two before the ship would move, and THEN it went back to spinning somewhat uncontrollably. If I can't control the ship well enough to shoot the bad guys, what good is the joystick to me?

So, if anyone has experienced this before or has ideas on how to fix it, please help me out. I've noticed other posts complaining about Logitech devices. If I would have know that before, I wouldn't have bought the thing. At this point, it looks like it will become a slightly used gift for my PC using friend. My best theory at this time is that it is because it is connected to my iMac by USB through a PC gameport adapter. I don't know much about this stuff, so I was just guessing on this theory.

If it will help, I have the newest version of InputSprocket1.7.3, using OS 9.0.4 on a original rev B iMac 233 Mhz with the Game Wizard Voodoo 2 card.

Thanks for any help on this.
