Ok, Hers's one for you all.. I recently bought a Palm IIIx organizer. And in order to use it with my iMac DVSE, I had to buy the above mentioned adapter. My mac is running OS 8.6, The keyspan adapter software is V2 (The latest update) and the Palm desktop software is V2.5. But no matter what I try, I can't Hotsync (Connect) my Palm device with my Mac. And it appears to be the Keyspan device giving me the hassle. When I open the Keyspan USB Serial Assistant control panel, It says "Driver found but no Keyspan USB serial device found" I've tried all the USB ports.. but still no joy.. Has anyone else had this problem? Or better still, Does anyone know what I can do to cure this problem!? Many thanks in advance...

Actually the Keyspan USB PDA adapter is one of my favourite devices. I have four. Two on a 7300 (one for a Palm Pilot Personal, one for a Wacom Tablet). One for my iBook which has the portable Palm sync cable and one for my wife's iMac which also has a Wacom tablet attached.

The only problem I had was when there are two PDA adapters on one machine if either is disconnected or moved to a new USB connection they will sometimes reverse the order they launch in (hence Device #1 becomes #2, etc.) this requires a change in the Hotsync Setup. You need to assign the appropriate keyspan device under local Hotsync. You of course need to ensure that Hotsync is running before atempting a sync of the Palm Pilot to your Mac.

I've successfully connected these devices both directly to an available USB Port (both native and USB upgraded Macs) and through Belkin USB hubs. Sorry if I'm not too much help I just wanted you to know that they do work wonderfully.

Good Luck,
CDL

I have one of these myself, and helped a friend who had one on a B&W G3 with 8.6.

She had problems (spotty connecting, etc.) until she upgraded to OS9. The USB drivers in 8.6 are several generations old already, and when she upgraded they all went away.

I've been using one on my B&W G3 without any problems, but since your iMac is much newer, I'd give OS9 a try. If you want to test if newer USB drivers will fix it before upgrading, you can get the 1.4.1f4 drivers from apple's developer USB site. It requires a tweak with ResEdit, and I wouldn't recommend keeping them on 8.6 (having different drivers in the MacOS ROM file and in the extensions seems to confuse it sometimes), but it would be a good test.

good luck--

Thanks for the feedback... I got a reply via Email from Keyspan today, and they could only suggest that I get a replacement adapter as it would appear that mine is faulty

I got the same problem on my Powerbook G3 trying to connect a palm IIIe. I´ve got the latest software for the driver as well as for the Palm and I use OS9 on the mac. I got the thing to work once only for a hotsync, after calling Cust.Serv. several times in california, which makes the whole thing quite pricy. But it only worked once and never since. The palm software seems to be OK, but the Keyspan thing is dodgy. The controller never sees the device, and it also does strange stuff to my computer. For instance if I reboot the machine with the adapter plugged in, it only shuts it down btu does not boot again until i unplug the adapter. Paradoxically, it only takes pluggin the adaptyer in when the Mac is swiched off, to make it boot, without even pressing the power button ?!? This makes no sense to me at all, because after the machine is running, itncan't see the device anymore.. complete mistery!
the most annoying thing is that last week my palm gave up and had tobe reset, losing all the data, and because the hotsync doesn't work, I had no backup whatsoever, and believe me, that's annoynig

Hope that doesn't happen to any of you. I don't dare to use the palm now anymore, before I cant't get the adapter and the hotsync to work.
I hope someone's got a helpfull tip for me. It would be really appreciated
