I just came across a JVC GR-DVF21 as a gift. Unfortunately the software cd only supports windows pc's. The camcorder has a firewire port which I connect to my iMac DV SE. The problem is that iMovie doesn't see the camera. I get a message saying "camera not connected". Now I can still use the camera with VideoShop and a video/usb bus, but I'd like to use the firewire ports if I could. I think the problem might be the lack of a driver. If so, are there 3rd party drivers I could use? Anyone else using a JVC DV camcorder with an iMac? I love the camera. Any help would be apprieciated.

I have the same camera and have been looking around for a video editing program that will support it. Currently, imovie does not. Edit DV Unplugged from Digital Origin will work, but you can only output back to videotape (as far as I can tell). You can download a free 30-day trial from their website.

I've been trying to get information about Videoshop's latest version which is supposed to support DV video. I have requested additional info from Strata's website several times, but have never received anything. Please let me know if you find anything out! Now that I finally have my G4, I'd really like to do some editing (strictly home movie stuff). Thanks!

At the first of the year I purchased a JVC GRDVM50. I thought the camera was great. Unfortunately I had problems exporting my imovie projects back to the camera via the firewire cable, the camera had problems with the transitions added in. At first I thought there must be a way to get my edited movies back to the camera, but in the end, after trying every conceivable option, I had to return the camera for a Canon Elura which has worked flawlessly.

huffaustin, thanks for the Edit DV tip. I downloaded the demo and I like it. Problem is I can't get IT to see my camera either. I must be doing something wrong. A few days after I got my JVC I went to Apple's site and saw a list of DV camcorders that were compatible with iMovie. My JVC was NOT one of them. Oh well, that solves that problem. Anyway, you said you can get your camera to work with Edit DV? What could I be doing wrong?? It's funny, but right before I got the JVC (as a gift) I had my sights set on the Canon Ultura. That was one of the camera's that was compatible with iMovie. Like you, I went to Video Shop's web site and saw nothing about firewire support. Thanks again. Please write soon and tell me more about Edit DV.

Make sure you have updated iMovie from the Apple web site. My JVC could not receive video from iMovie until I got the update. Now it works great.
