I have a problem with two Rev D iMacs, both running 8.6 and all the appropriate scanner software installed. When I try to use Adobe PhotoDeluxe to access the scanner, I get a dialog box telling me that an error occurred in the Code Fragment Manager.

I tried installing the newer version of the scanner driver, but got the same error. I didn't check with OmniPage, however.

I'm unsure if all the appropriate firmware updates have been installed.

Anyone have any clues as to what this could be? The scanner works fine with OS 9 on my iBook.

I have exactly the same problem on a Rev D iMac with MacOS 9. I tried reinstalling a clean system and the Canon software but the only thing which fixed it was a low level format and reinstall. The problem disappeared for about a week then showed up again. In Photoshop I get the Macintosh Code Fragment Manager error and under the CanoScan Toolbox I get can't find the plug in although it is clearly there.

Any help would be appreciated.

Well, got off the phone with Canon Support and have sorted all problems with my F636U Canon scanner.

The nice lady suggested 3 things...

1) make sure ColorSync is installed

2) check that the kdsys extensions from Kodak color correction stuff is there

3) make sure pfpix extension is there

i didn't have Colorsync for some dumb reason, and as soon as i moved across the ColorSync extensions from a previous sys folder, bang, scanner worked just fine.

hope this helps someone

I was about to give up when I did searches on the internet, and found this forum! How terrific is this! I was very close to yanking out my hair, after having tried everything I could think of to fix this Code Fragment Manager problem on my G3. My digital camera was the problem device. It is USB. Is everyone else's problem caused by an external USB device? I have OS9, so after reading this forum, and trying everything I can think of... I know it isn't and OS problem.

I got the error message in both Photoshop 5.5 and PhotoDeluxe...so I think... okay, this is a plug-in Adobe thing. Trash the preferences, change the ColorSync in the control panel, reinstall the system software in place, replace the plug-ins from a backup file... run Norton...run Disk First Aid. Sweat bullets thinking about all the bad things you think it is...

What finally cued me was, I looked in my extensions manager, and it showed one extension with a -- where it should tell me what version software it was for...which meant that it wasn't active. I went directly to my system folder/extensions folder to check and see if it had disabled my devices extension. It hadn't, but I discovered there were actually 4 extension that were supposed to be active for my camera. Well... I kinda narrowed it down to reinstalling the device's drivers/plug-ins/extensions from the original disk... and whattyda know... it worked. So... try this first folks and save yourself some nerve damage.

I hope it works for you! Good luck!
