i brought 2 porsche 500 g HDs. 1. Why can't I put a system on them?

2. I tried to copy some cd's to it and it only puts the link to the cd. Why can't I simply put the cd on the HD icon and get it to copy it?

thanx.

You have to drag the contents of the CD to the HD manually. USB HD's are not allowed to have a OS on them. Remember that Mac OS X is different than windows and don't expect them to be the same...

So what you are saying is that if i buy a firewire external HD, that i could put a OS on it and then boot in target disc mode and run a completely different OS on my Mac?

Yes you can install and boot from an external Firewire drive but not USB. I'm not sure whether it can be done from anything other than Mac OS X but if you try it and it works, please tell us.

Yes, but you don't need to boot in target disc mode. You can just use Startup Disk in System Prefs to set the external drive as your boot drive.
