Is there a way to tell how many bauds/bps a modem is without hooking it up? I have an internal modem and I never used it before, and I didnt want to go through all the trouble of hooking it up and installing it just to find out how fast it is. Is there a quick way to tell just by looking at the peice itself? I looked all over it for a sticker of some sort to explain but I found none. Please assist!

if its internal like you say, then there isn't anything to setup. plug in a phone cord and dial a number. anyway, if thats too much setup, you can always open the modem control panel cause it will see it. it will list either a) the script its would use, thus giving you the speed (the script name usually contains the speed) or b) if no script, it will give you the modem name found and from there, look it up at the manufactures website.

Perhaps I should add that it is not connected to any computer in any way, its just a separate peice. So that control panel stuff isnt much use, or is it? I dunno

Does the modem have a make and model name on it? If it does, you could probably find it on the manufacturer's web page or you could ask the list. If the modem is original to the Mac, just tell us what model the Macintosh is and someone can tell you what came with it.
