My parents have an HP USB scanner for their aging Gateway PC. I'm trying to convince them to make their next purchase a new iMac, but I discovered several months ago when trying to hook up the scanner to my iMac that HP doesn't make Mac drivers for their USB scanners! (at least not the model we have, and I'm not sure which it is) This may have changed in the last few months, and if not I hope there might be quality third-party drivers out there, but I don't know the answer to any of those questions.

Can anyone help me on this? It's gonna be a tough sell to get them to switch over, but if I can make the scanner work it'd be a HUGE step forward.

Thanks a lot. Checked that out, and it looks like a good option, but does anyone know of another, cheaper option? Not trying to sound stingy, but I know what my parents will say to the prospect of having to fork over an extra $70 to get their existing scanner to work with a new Mac. I wouldn't hesitate to go that route, but as for them....

Again, something I would certainly consider if it were my decision.

However, my folks might not be so thrilled about that option either.

HP recently reentered the Mac scanner market. Check their web site for drivers.

Excellent....this is what I was hoping for, but I hadn't gotten around to checking the web site. As of August they said they'd pulled out of Mac driver development, so I was a bit disenchanted and hadn't gone back to look for myself.

If you cannot find Mac drivers for the scanner, call HP. Sometimes they require you to buy the drivers from them.

Looks like I spoke too soon -- the scanner they have is one of the few listed on the web page that don't have drivers to d/l. I guess I'll have to call them.
