My pismo powerbook sometimes has trouble playing DVD smoothly or it just stops playing at all. Seems just like a slow CD-rom not capable of playing a CD/VCD at a desirable rate.

Anybody know how fast a DVD ROM a Pismo comes with? and also is it supposed to be fast enough to play most DVDs out for sale?

Check which version of DVD Player you're using. O experienced asudden drop in frame rates when I switched from 2.4 to 2.7 Apparently, 2.7 is software-only. This means that the speed at which the DVD player draws new frames is dependent on how fast your CP is. This is fine for a G4, but a g3 at 400 or 500 mhz is jujst barely able to play DVDs without any background tasks, and does it poorly with other things going on.

Thanks for ur info,cdhostage.

It's kind of discouraging to hear a DVD player for my Pismo 400 is not quite capable. I wonder how much better,if any at all, a DVD with new iBook is than one with a Pismo.

When i switched my Pismo to 2.7 The DVD player stopped working altogether...and I can't get it back even when I go back to 2.4.

But I think 2.4 was software only also..I don't think that the Pismo has a hardware decoder at all.
