I am looking to buy a new 75 gig IBM Deskstar to go in my new QuickSilver G4. What are the best online dealers that I should check out? Other World has the drive for $240 but I'm pretty sure there is a better deal out there. Thanks...
Yeah, about those TPS reports, didn't you get the memo?

Go to www.cnet.com and use their shopping feature. It polls a bunch of on-line vendors and tells you their prices. It also lists ratings of that merchant so you can decide if they are reliable.

Some of the lowest price are also OEM drives - you won't be able to RMA if needed. The 75GXP is actually last year's and unless you need 75-80GB, the 60GXP is only 20/40/60 it seems.

I buy from www.hypermicro.com after going to StorageReview.com - two excellent places to check out.

Yeah, that's right, the 60GXP is actually newer than the 75GXP. I was all set to get the 75GXP until I realized this.

The 60GXP is newer, cheaper -- and smaller (60GB max). In the end, I decided to forgo the extra 15 gigs in order to save about $60. I used Other World Computing.

I ordered the 60 GB 60GXP from Outpost, for something like $224.00 about three months ago. It was backordered for about a week, but I think they were the cheapest by about $20.00 at that point. It's really quiet, and really fast compared to the Maxtor 20 GB 5400 rpm that it replaced.
