Hello,

I am aware that OS 9.1 supports most firewire disc drives out of the box; however, I do not want to go to OS 9.1 and would like to get my FireWire drive working. Here is what I have:

- DataStor enclosure
- 80 GB Maxtor drive (ATA 100, 5400 RPM)
- iMAC 400 MHz DV/SE
- OS 9.0.4

Any ideas on how to get this working without using OS 9.1. Neither the enclosure nor the disk came with software drivers.

Thanks!

The latest drivers (I think it's 2.7 or 2.9) should be available from Apple's website.

Problem resolved. Found Firewire drivers on 9.1 CD and copied to extension folder and rebooted. FireDrive came up without any problems.

Slightly off topic:

Why don't you want to go to OS 9.1?

I had previously installed 9.1 and had performance problems and lots of system freezes. I'm now back on 9.0.4 and I am seeing better performance and my system is more stable (no freezes in 4 days).

I find that OS 9.1 is a lot more stable than OS 9.0.4. Maybe you have some specific extension conflicts going on.
