I had an IDE 5400rpm drive from Western Digital turn bad this week - after purchasing it just 4 months ago.
After determining that the reseller would be of no help (30 day return policy) - I tried going to Western Digital's site.
NO Macintosh Utility/Troubleshooting software!
Trying to register on some part's of the site failed because I wasn't running a Windsows OS!! (which I was going into to read about their Warranty coverage details!!!)
Hostile responses to Mac users with WD harddrives posting into their user forums!!!
If I contact Western Digital tech support by phone for warranty repair - will they even help me? Would they go so far as to say no to warranty repairs because I use the harddrive in a Mac?
What other IDE drives are good? My friend like's IBM's.
Any suggestions anybody?
Steve

I had a start up problem with an external WD 20 a little over a year ago. I contacted them by phone and they were very helpful.

All Western Digital hard drives are Mac-compatible. It says it on the box along with a Mac logo.
The disk tools require DOS, however.

Actually, I bought it OEM so I didn't have a box.
Thanks for the help guys; I will contact Western Digital tech support tommorow to ask for help.
I had some very bad phone tech support about a year ago (from our favorite company - no less! ); so I'm shy when it come's to calling anyone.

If it comes down to you needing to buy a new drive, I'd also recommend the IBM Deskstar series. They can't be beat in speed and reliability.
