Help! Last night my refurbished Lacie USB CD-RW drive arrived much to my glee. Unfortunately after plugging it in and installing the software, it's only recognized as an external USB CD-ROM. ACK! Tried another USB cable, set extensions to base config except for USB, CD authoring and Lacie extensions, rebooted. Same thing. Reinstalled the software, rebooted. Arrg! Much gnashing of teeth and rending of garments followed, but no CD writing. I'm able to read CDs perfectly from the drive, just not write. The system profiler shows it as a CD-ROM. I've got Blueberry iBook with 6 gig HD and 192 megs of RAM on OS 9.1 with the USB cable plugged directly into the iBook, not a USB hub. Any tips, suggestions, etc. would be much appreciated. Thanks all...

I tried it both with Toast and iTunes, neither one was able to find a CD-Burner. The strange thing is, there was no problem recognizing the drive as a CD-ROM, just as CD-Writer. The drive management software included with the drive (its name escapes me just now) recognized the CD-RW drive as a USB CD-ROM drive also. Grrr....

BTW, I am using the OEM version of Toast. Tried using it and iTunes with no luck with different extension configurations. (iTunes disabled/Toast active/Lacie diabled, etc) I am getting a notice that the CD needs to be prepared to be burned when I place a blank CD-R in the CDRW drive, but then when I attempt to burn an Audio CD iTunes/Toast cannot find the drive. When I try to burn a disk as an HFS+ I get a message saying the device is not supported. Again, any ideas, suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.....

my guess is the extensions aren't properly supporting the drive. what happens if you disable all the CD burning-related extensions? if your drive is still recognized as a CD-ROM, then i'd say you need newer/different extensions to support your burner.
